Nick Puffett

Nick is a Registered Nurse with over 35 years of experience in nursing.
Having worked throughout his career with palliative care patients in both in-patient and community settings, he is passionate about providing excellent care for patients.
Through his work as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Nick is experienced in District Nursing and General Practice and additionally practices as a community nurse and Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist visiting palliative care patients who require urgent assessment of their end-of-life care needs. This includes advanced care planning, setting up ReSPECT plans and prescribing end of life medications.
He is an independent nurse prescriber and holds an MSc in Advanced Practice, which has given him experience in holistically assessing patients from both a nursing and medical perspective.
In 2017 Nick was awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse, by the Queen’s Nursing Institute for services to community nursing.
From an early stage in his career Nick knew he wanted to work with palliative care patients, first working in a hospice, then in acute oncology settings and with patients in the community. Over the course of his career, he has nursed many patients with lung cancer and mesothelioma and has developed a special interest in these conditions - in particular managing breathing control and symptom management, enabling patients to understand more about their capabilities and adapting their activity to optimise their health.
Since leaving his role within a Hospice at Home service, Nick was invited to join the board of trustees where he continues to shape the service provided to patients and families.
In his role as an expert witness, Nick has completed Bond Solon training (Excellence in Writing Expert Witness Reports), and participates in ongoing continued professional development to provide the best quality of evidence to the courts.
